My name is Claire. I've been a businesswoman for many years now. And there was a time when I wouldn't DARE to step onto a golf course.
Back then, I didn't golf. My Dad did, and lots of guys I knew and worked with did, but that wasn't me. Sure, when my friends and I were younger, we would go to the driving range from time to time, borrow a club or two from the range's loaner barrel, and smack some golf balls for fun. But my Dad was a "serious golfer," and so were his friends and all the businessmen I knew who golfed. If I dared to step onto a real golf course, wouldn't I make a fool of myself? Wouldn't the rest of my foursome get annoyed that I couldn't keep up with them? Wouldn't my Dad get mad that I slowed him down?
After all, I'm a chick. And men don't want to play golf with chicks.
And then one day, I went back to the driving range - but this time I joined my Dad on one of his weekly visits there. And I found that the basic mechanics of a golf shot aren't that complicated.
So I kept going back. Evenings, weekends.... I went back and worked on my swing. And I found that the range was also a great place to get distance from things I was struggling with, physically and mentally.
Then I went to a smaller golf course with a few friends. I did that a few times as I learned what I could do with different clubs.
Then I golfed with my Dad. And I was awful. But I loved every minute of it... and so did he.
Eventually, I started participating in company outings - and met and forged relationships with a wide variety of businesspeople. And now, I golf regularly - with my Dad, with clients, in golf outings.
Today, I crush the golf ball - AND my business - with complete confidence.
